Populist Governments ; The ill fate of India’s Education.

Populist Governments ; The ill fate of India’s Education. In a recent Job opening by Indian Railways more than 28 Million people applied for 90,000 jobs of Grade C which includes jobs like Gangman, Repairsman, Lineman and Engine Driver. Most applicants here are Graduates or even post Graduates. If anything this event is hallmark of low reliability of Letter Grades and Paper Degrees; universities across India are churning. So let’s look at this problem from it’s inception. Post Independence policy In 1947 when India gained Independence from the British it’s literacy rate was a partly 12%. This has since shot up to 74% in 2011. This phenomenal growth has come at a cost of quality of education. Rapid increase in schools and pupils through the compulsory education policy of the government means that people were educated to flaunt literacy rate figures each election and wether they actually received any education or become capable of trade or skill of any kin...

How sure are we that we have detected a gravitational wave? How sensitive is LIGO?

Now that you know how an interferometer works it’s obvious your next question would be to know how sensitive are they ? Here I take the second question first and then move on to answer how sure are we that we have detected a Gravitational Wave. In case you are here for the first time or have no clue about interferometers or Gravitational wave astronomy you might want to read my previous article first. How Do the LIGO Detectors Work? How are Gravitational Waves Detected? What you see above are the instruments that created history on 14 September 2015. How Do the LIGO Detectors Work? How are Gravitational Waves Detected?

What you see above are the instruments that created history on 14 September 2015. In a Galaxy far far away, Billion years ago 2 Black-Holes were locked into a dance till they united as one and all we hear are ripples it created in Space-time. To hear these ripples all that was needed were the most sensitive and precise instrument on Earth that was conceptualized nearly 5 decade ago by Rainer Weiss and Kip Thorne. After constant perseverance they finally got approval for funding in 1994 by the NSF (National Science Foundation),Construction neared completion in 1997 and the detectors went online in 2002. From 2002–10 the detectors failed to register any Gravitational waves! The detectors were then upgraded from 2010–15 and new and more sensitive detectors called the Advanced-LIGO came into existence that detected the first Gravitational wave GW150814. What looked like an instant shot to fame was actually years of perseverance and confidence of both Scientists and ...

How this small city in Gujarat shunned Caste -Based Vote Bank politics

Bhavnagar City has a history where each election till date has been fought on the lines of caste. This is owing to the large majority of Koli Community in the city constituting 45% of the electorate. Congress and BJP are the only two major front runners in any election here and strong independent candidates or third fronts are mostly absent. Owing to strong unity and caste identity among the Koli community it was virtually considered impossible for a non – Koli candidate to win irrespective of their party affiliation or Public image if pitted against a member of Koli community. Thus both parties would either pit a Koli candidate or refrain from it in unison each time. Whenever this pattern was broken the the non Koli candidate has always been punished. During the 2012 Gujarat General assembly elections the Congress heavyweight and leader of opposition Shaktisinh Gohil lost in Bhavnagar Rural constituency against Koli candidate. It is due to this massive majority ...

Today's Major Gravitational Wave Announcement and why you should be interested?

Today’s a Major Gravitational Wave Announcement ; Why you should be interested ? Today at 7:30 PM IST scientist’s from LIGO VIRGO and 70 other observatory are about to announce a breakthrough in Gravitational Wave Astronomy. This is one of the major events that can shape the future of mankind and its understanding of the universe. But Alas most media has turned a blind eye to it as usual. So I take it upon myself to enlighten you about it and why is it important? But before you can understand the significance let me get through the basic pre-requisites ASAP. The fabric of Space-Time Most of us believe that there are 3-dimensions in our universe (Length , Breadth and height) but that is not the case, actually there are 4 dimensions in our universe; the last one being Space-Time. To understand Space-time, imagine a piece of stretched fabric like a trampoline. Now a massive object like a star ,Planet or Blackhole will crea...

An open request to first time Voters and Parents.

Gujarat Election's are just ahead and we are already seeing theatrics being performed by the top congress brass and poll strategy being discussed at length in major daily's. One of the important section of the electorate are going to be the First Time Voters these are students who are just out of their School and started pursuing their University Education.  As young we are more prone to influence than adults and most political groups try to sway our votes by giving petty lollipop promises like the NaMO-Etab scheme where our government has already pumped in 300 Corers of Public's hard earned money by promising tablets worth 8000 for 1000 Rs. but on examination you will find that tablets with equivalent configurations are availabe for 5500 in market and government has not bargained a penny for their mass purchase otherwise the same can be procured for atleast 4500 a piece that would be around 40% savings from the current scheme budget. Adding insult to injury these chea...
